The AK-47(Avtomat Kalashnikov Model 1947)was the second assault rifle(after the German Mp-44).It fires 7.62mm ammo. The Ak-74(Avtomat Kalahnikov Model 1974)was Russia's answer to the M-16. It fires the 5.56mm ammo instead of the 7.62mm ammo.

The AK-74 does not fire NATO-type 5.56mm bullets. It fires 5.45x39 mm rounds. The only AK rifles that are chambered for NATO rounds are the newer AK-100 series (compact versions mostly) or various unofficial modifications of previous rifles. The best weapon, however, is a sexy brunette.
